Looking for ways to bring your family closer? Check out these 5 tips plus the free family time challenge!
With a new year, many of us are looking for simple ways to bring our family closer together. Connecting as a family does not have to be hard, instead, it just takes some intentional actions. Below are five easy ways to grow closer, plus you can grab the 30 Day Family Time Challenge! This challenge will give you 30 different ways to connect as a family!
Simple Ways to Bring Your Family Closer Together
Have a regular family night.
Family nights can be a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly thing. You can do all sorts of activities during family night. The point is not what you are doing but that you are doing it together. Carving out this regular time together is a key way to build strong family bonds.
Spend time together without technology.
I love technology but it also can create barriers in families. Consider trying a screen-free day or screen-free night together. This will help you and your family connect without the screens being in the way. Plus, when we, as parents, set our screens down, we are teaching our kids how to use screens in a healthy way.
Laugh together.
Laughter is great medicine. There have been many times that laughing together is what builds us closer. One way that we usually laugh together is by sharing silly stories, jokes, or even playing a family game of charades.
Explore your city together.
A goal for our family this year is to do one outing outside of the house a month as a family. Whether it is hiking some trails or visiting a local attraction, I want to explore our city together. Wherever you live, there are places to discover and enjoy as a family!
Take a minute and start a list of places you want to check out in your city as a family. Then slowly start working your way through exploring these places!
Eat dinner together.
Eating together a proven way to connect family together. While we do all have busy schedules, we can choose to be intentional with this. Instead of being overwhelmed by the idea of eating together 7 nights a week, start small and challenge yourself with three nights. Then slowly add more nights in.
Of course, be realistic wit yourself! During the soccer season, there are usually a few nights a week that we are eating dinner as we drive to soccer. I have learned to make sure to protect our off nights so we can sit down and eat together then. Different seasons will cause us to adjust family dinners, but in each season find a way to make at least one night a week a family dinner together.

Love how you protect those nights you don’t have activities-we try to do the same. Sometimes it’s pizza and movie night on a Tuesday instead of a Friday.
Exactly- just switching it up makes such a big difference!
I love these ideas! It is essential to protect our time! We have been trying to incorporate more family nights & it’s a goal of mine for 2020. It has been so helpful already!
Thanks! Yes, the kids have so much fun with family nights. It’s great!
These are great ideas, Keri! One of the things I️ want my family to do more of this year is get out of the house and adventure more together! Thanks for the reminder <3
Thanks Brittany! Same here, it is so easy for us to just get in our routine.
