Get the free after school conversation cards to help cultivate intentional talks with your kids!
After school conversation cards have become a favorite in our home this year. With all three of my kids in school, I have been cherishing this after school time more than ever lately! Growing up, I have fond memories of this time and recall sitting on a barstool talking to my mom- so many special memories there.
Instead of asking yes and no questions, we have started to ask a variety of questions that get our kids to open up and share more of the moments and feelings from the day! Two things have helped me be intentional with this after school time.
After School Conversation Cards + Snacks
The first thing that has helped has been having a snack ready to go.
My kids come home starving and I am guessing yours do too. They are pretty much ready for a second lunch at this time and since they get home at 2 pm, they have a large time span before dinner. Having a snack ready to go has been key for our after school time.
The second thing that has helped has been using conversation cards.
Honestly, I am not the best at thinking on my feet so it has been so helpful for me to have a list of questions to pull from. Recently, we put the questions in a jar and the kids LOVE being able to pull them out and answer them.
The best part is that it encourages them to share more of the details of the day and we are able to process some of the emotions from the day.
What if the after school time looks different?

I realize some moms work outside of the home and the after school time maybe later in the day or consist of more time in the car. You can still utilize a snack and the after school conversation cards!
Have some on-the-go snacks ready in the car and instead of putting the conversation cards in a jar, use a hole punch to create holes in them so they can go on a ring. And if you really want these cards to last well, laminate them. I know, not everyone has a laminator (but I know some mamas do, I am one step away from ordering one).
No matter what after school time frame looks like, we can all find pockets of time for conversation. Grab the free conversation cards and get started with intentional talks with your kids today!
