Want to try an at home date night? These tips will help you see how this simple idea can be a great way to connect with your spouse!
Having a regular at home date night has become a favorite rhythm of mine. They started because of a couple things. Some months the finances were tighter and other months we would have a date night planned only to have a kid get sick. My initial reaction was frustration but my husband started the idea of us just having a date at home. The result has been a regular tradition for us and one of my favorite kind of date nights! It is a great way to continue to grow closer and focus on our marriage.
At Home Date Night Ideas
Put the kids to bed as usual.
The point is to have kid free time so you will want the kids to be in bed. Of course if you have a little baby, they may be making some appearances, but overall keep the time kid free.
Enjoy dinner together.
Even though it means we eat later than usual, we have loved making dinner to eat after the kids go to sleep. Most of the time my husband will grill and I will make a couple sides to go along with it.
Keep the phones away.
Whether we are on a date night at home or out for a date, we like to keep our phones put away. It is important to have time with your spouse without the distraction of texts and social media.
Play a game.
When we were first married, we loved playing card games together. However, as we entered into parenthood, most nights we crashed on the couch into Netflix oblivion. A fun thing to do during an at home date night is to break out a game.
Try a date night in a box service.
We recently tried this and had so much fun! Honestly, at first we were a little skeptical but the night resulted in us cracking up so many times.
Whether you are struggling to find a babysitter, have a sick kid, or have tight finances, you can still have regular date nights. Get creative and have fun!

All great ideas. I think phones away is key! We love playing games together or watching a favorite show together with a drink!
I love the idea to play games together!
My husband and I need to get better about intentional time at home…we get out for dates from time to time but more often than not we are home together crashing on the couch watching TV.
It is so hard at times! We are really trying to focus in on this.
