Save money during back to school shopping by making intentional choices!
Today, I gathered together my best back to school money-saving tips, because we all know it can be expensive! Between purchasing the items for school, clothes, and shoes it can all add up very quickly. As a budget loving mom, I have found there are a few things that are helpful to do in order to save money.
Before you head out to the stores, make sure to read through these tips to help you save some money and maybe some sanity too!
Back to School Money Saving Tips
Go through the clothes first.
Before you do any school clothes shopping, go through all of their clothes. Trust me, this will help you save money. If there is anything that is stained, too small, or never worn put it in the donate/trash pile. Make sure you go through their shoes too!
Create a list.
Write out a list of everything that is needed. This will help you stay focused while shopping and remember what your purpose is. Our goal is to be intentional with our money.
Check where the sales are.
Before you head to the store, look to see if there are any sales. Before driving around to a ton of different stores, make sure the sales are worth driving for. Sometimes, once I look at the sale, it really is not worth the gas money to drive twenty extra minutes to save a dollar.
Take advantage of coupons.
I am a big fan of using coupons that are easy! One of my favorites is the Target Cartwheel App. It is so simple and does not involve clipping and carrying around lots of coupons.
Buy quality shoes.
This is a lesson we learned the hard way. I am all about saving money, so I purchased some less expensive shoes from a store. However, the shoes barely lasted two months! I have three kids who love to run and race around, so I want to make sure they have shoes that will last.
The boys have liked Nike and Under Armor shoes, and I know these can be expensive! But there is a trick! You can look at the clearance, check for an outlet store, or shop at Ross (if you have a Ross or similar store).
I love shopping for some of the kid’s clothes at Children’s Place online because they have free shipping! It makes it so easy.
Have a game plan.
Growing up, my mom would always make a list of our errands and what we were getting at each place. This is a technique I use now that I am a mom. It helps keep myself focused and on task. Before you head to the stores, write out a list of what stores you are going to and what you are looking for at each store.
While this is an expensive time of the year, it is possible to save some money when we are making intentional choices. What back to school money-saving tips do you have?
