Backyard Olympic games are a great way to kick off the summer Olympics! Check out these great ideas for families.
Backyard Olympic games are just what is needed as we head into the summer Olympics. We always love watching the games and having some backyard fun adds to the excitement! You can even add in a fun snack for the family fun time.
Backyard Olympic Games
Use diving rings and an empty paper towel roll to have a fun ring toss game. You can tape the paper towel roll to a paper plate to give it a base.. Set it up and then have everyone practice throwing the rings.
A regular running race is always a fun event! Have someone run the time while the others run.
Create your own balance beam by using a long piece of wood laid flat. Have everyone practice walking on it. Make sure to wear shoes so you do not get splinters.
Bean Bag Toss
You can use your corn hole game or have your kids toss the bags into buckets. Take turns tossing and determine the points if needed.
Draw a basic target on a piece of paper and hang it outside. We put ours hanging from the soccer goal. Then use squirt guns or NERF guns to have target practice. We gave different points for bullseye or if they hit the paper.
Water Balloon Toss
Water balloons are the perfect addition to these games! You can do this game in teams of two and have the teammates toss the water balloon back and forth to see which team lasts the longest. Or you could set up different buckets for players to try to toss their balloons into. Another idea would be to do a water balloon relay race.
With all of these games, it is fun to have some special snacks! There are so many great ideas on Pinterest. One that my kids loved was having Ice Cream Cone Torches.
All you need for this is ice cream cones and Cheetos or popcorn. Fill an empty cone with Cheetos or popcorn and you have cute torches for the snack.
