For many busy moms, there is a common goal to focus on health in the start of a new year. We all want to improve ourselves and make goals. The other day as I was writing out my goals for the new year, I realized something. In order for my goals to actually happen, I needed to take action.
Moms, we are not going to be healthy until we take some steps forward. Today, I encourage you to start your journey to a healthier lifestyle with these five steps.
The other day, I started wondering again as I was elbow deep in a sink of soap suds battling a baking dish. I started thinking about all the women that I know who are moms. Sorting through them all, I noticed how different each woman was. It wasn’t a great revelation or anything mind-blowing and still it stuck with me.
Somehow, in the midst of my motherhood journey, I had started to think there was only one way to do it all. Often, I became lost in a sea of articles, advice, and comparison trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and how I could do it better. My problem wasn’t in my mothering ability, it was in how I was defining motherhood. In that soap suds filled moment, I realized it was time to redefine motherhood.

Sweet friends, you might be cringing at the name of this blog post or maybe your type A personality can’t wait to read more because you live for setting goals- either way, keep reading because there just might be a bonus at the end.
We make time for what is important to us. For most of us, it feels as though time is flying by. There never seems to be enough time in the day to do everything that we need to do.
Our days are filled with diaper changes, meal times, laundry folding, and car rider lines.
It can be easy for moms to get lost in the sea of all those things. Weeks and eventually months can pass by, and we realize we have not done one thing that we wanted to do. In fact some days we barely accomplished what we needed to do.
Sitting with a cup of coffee, reading one of my current favorite books is the setting for a perfect afternoon. While I may not read as much as I used to pre-kids (unless you count Curious George and Pete the Cat), reading is still extremely important to me.
I have learned that no matter how busy you are, you make time for what is important. Since reading is a favorite thing, I make time for it.
When I found out about podcasts, I was in the thick of learning how to care for two little ones. Exhaustion filled my soul as I turned on my phone to listen to The Happy Hour and God Centered Mom. Instantly, I loved podcasts. Reading a parenting article, let alone a book, was not always feasible in those days but listening to a podcast while folding laundry or making dinner worked.
If you have a mama friend to shop for or maybe you need to give your husband a little list of ideas, this is for you! I love, love, love buying gifts for mamas because it is always so fun to shower someone with love! Many times, moms can be so focused on caring for everyone else, that they forget to focus on caring for themselves. It is a struggle, isn’t it?
