Create DIY big bubbles with this easy recipe with just four ingredients!
DIY big bubbles has become a summer tradition for my kids. They love making these and every time I mention we are going to make bubbles, they immediately are all smiles! The best part about the bubbles is that they do not require a lot of ingredients and you can get a lot of use out of one batch!
The trick for getting the bubbles to work is having a lot of patience. This activity should be added to my Family Moments section on patience because there is a lot of trial and error. However, we have found that letting the bubble solution sit for a while before using it, helps the bubbles form easily.
DIY Big Bubbles for Kids
Let’s first prepare the bubble solution and then we can create the bubble wands.
Supplies Needed for Bubbles & Bubble Wands
Gather up all of your supplies before you start. We stopped at Walmart to pick up everything we needed.
- 2 gallons warm water
- 1 cup Dawn Dish Soap
- 1/2 cup Glycerin
- 2 tablespoon Baking Powder
- Yarn
- Straws
Big Bubble Solution
- Put 2 gallons of warm water into a container.
- Add in 1 cup Dawn Dish Soap and ½ cup glycerin and 2 tablespoons baking powder.
- Mix in the baking power gently with a spoon. Let rest at least an hour. I mixed ours in a mixing bowl and then slowly transferred to a swallow bin.
DIY Big Bubbles Wands
Cut yarn to desired size and use straws to string the yarn through to create wands. See picture below for example. Of course you can also purchase your own big bubble wands to use as well!
Now go have fun!
You are ready to enjoy the bubble fun! Trust me, your kids will love this!
P.S. If you have little kids, still have fun with this! I encourage you to be the one holding the wand and watch your little one’s amazement at the big bubbles!

I remember when my kids were younger, they loved bubbles (and chalk). We made our own DIY bubbles at one point and they worked really well.
It is such a fun activity!!!
