One of our favorite family dinners is chicken gyros. This meal is pretty simple and everyone always loves it.  Ii is perfect for a family dinner or having others over.  Our favorite part o.  f this meal is the homemade naan. The first time you make naan, it may seem overwhelming, but trust me, you will get the hang of it. Now it really only takes 30 minutes for me to make it.

Homemade Chicken Gyros

  • Boneless Skinless Chicken breasts
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • ¼ cup canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • ½ tablespoon oregano

Place boneless skinless chicken breasts in the slow cooker. I usually do about four for our family of five. Add in the diced onion, canola oil, garlic powder, oregano. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 6-8 hours. Once it is cooked, shred it and let it remain warm in slow cooker.

  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup canola oil
  • ⅔ cup Greek Yogurt
  • 2 eggs
  • About 6 cups flour.

Combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Stir in the oil, yogurt, eggs, and salt. Add in flour slowly to create a dough. Cover and let rise 30 minutes-an hour.

Divide the dough into smaller circles. Roll the dough out into circles to fit in the frying pan. Heat a little oil in your frying pan and then place the first dough circle in. Make sure the heat is at medium. Once the top starts to bubble, it is time to flip. Cook the naan on both sides until lightly golden. Place on a plate to cool. We love this bread and it is perfect with the chicken.

Tzatziki Sauce

  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Shredded Cucumber
  • Garlic Powder

I usually use about 8 oz of greek yogurt. Using a shredder, I shred cucumber into the yogurt (a couple tablespoons). Then I add in about 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. You can add more garlic powder if desired.

Homemade Chicken Gyros

Serve with diced tomatoes and cucumbers. This meal is an absolute favorite and perfect for when you have company over. The homemade naan completes the chicken gyros.  We have served it with hummus and pita chips and it is always delicious.

What about you? What is a favorite family dinner of yours?
