It is time to prepare for advent! I have found that taking time to prepare for the advent season, helps the intentional activities actually happen.
Each year looks a little different for us with advent, but I always love finding simple ways to be intentional with my kids during advent and lent.

How to Prepare for Advent
Understand what advent is.
Before we dive into preparing, let’s talk about what advent is. Advent, in the Christian church calendar, is the period of preparing for the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas and also the preparation for the second coming of Christ.
Advent starts in 2022 on November 27th and ends on December 24th.
Decide if you will use any visuals.
Visuals for advent are often advent candles and advent wreaths. We have loved using advent candles as you have a regular reminder through the visual of the candles.
If you have younger kids, they may love this hands-on craft for advent candles. For other kids, I love using battery-operated candles.

Decide if you will do a personal study.
There are so many different advent studies! During a hard season, I found that having my own personal study was key. This year, I plan to use Emmanuel by Ruth Chou Simons. There are lots of options on Youversion too.
Decide if you will use a kids’ study.
There are so many options for studies to do with your kids! I share a lot of different options here.
What we are using this year:
For our family, we will use advent candles. I also plan to have us use our Jesse Tree ornaments. We will not dive deep into this but will have the daily ornament to hang. For a fun aspect, we will do some of the activities from Glory + Wonder.
