Ready for May-cember?! Keep reading for intentional tips to thrive during the end of the school year.
The end of the school year is upon us and with it comes a flood of activities, emails, field days, etc. It is the month that many moms now call May-cember as it feels just as full as December.
Instead of panicking and living stressed out all month, let’s be intentional and learn how we can thrive this month.

Tips to Thrive During the End of the School Year
Let go of trying to do it all.
No one is doing it all. If it looks like they are, know they are not. As moms, we compare ourselves so easily. We try to be supermom and do everything. This is impossible and will send you into a stressed-out mom life.
Decide what your essentials are and focus on those. Do you love making cute teacher gifts? Go for it! Do you prefer to grab a gift card for teachers? Do that! Everyone thrives in different ways. When we stop trying to do everything, we will fall gently into our God-designed lane and thrive.
Make a weekly plan.
While this is a great rhythm to incorporate regularly, it is essential to do this during May. Take time at the start of the week to look at the week ahead. Use a weekly plan notepad to keep it mapped out visually.
Then you can communicate with your spouse and kids about important things ahead of time. This will also help you to see which evenings are busier and need extra simple dinners!
Take care of yourself.
What are your must-do things that will help you stay sane this month?
I do best when I do the following each day:
- Spend time reading my Bible
- Have some kind of physical activity
- Drink my water
- Sit in the sun for 10 minutes
These things help me so much. When I do not get to do them, I feel frazzled.
Determine what your must-haves are and make it a priority to do these during May. During high-stress times, it is even more important that we practice self-care.
Keep life simple.
During May, there are extra school events, things to remember to get for school, and so on. There is so much extra that it is important to not add anything extra.
Practically, this means, May is the month for simple dinners. It is not the month to try new recipes.
It is okay to say no to things. Do not feel like you have to keep adding in extra. Focus on the priorities and pause before you commit to something.
Remember it is just a season.
May is full of so much and it is over so quickly. It is a full month and it is just for a season. Lately, I have been working on saying life is full instead of life is busy.
These days with a high schooler, middle schooler, and elementary-aged kid our life is full and it is beautiful. These moments may be chaotic but there is also a beauty in it. I love the chats in the car with the kids as we drive to soccer practice.
This season is fleeting. Look for small ways to treasure it and be present, even in the crazy.
Thriving does not mean perfection.
I think we can easily believe the lie that thriving means perfection. This could not be further from the truth. Often while thriving, we have moments of survival. There are going to be chaotic moments and things will not go perfectly this month, but it is okay.
As we end the school year, I encourage you to take a deep breath. You can do this!
What about you? How do you thrive during the end of the school year?
