Looking for indoor winter activities for kids? Check out these great ideas!
Indoor winter activities for kids are a must because of the fact that we are inside more in the colder months. Even though we live in the south, we still have cold days where I like to have a list of some simple activities for my kids. These activities are all my favorites!
Indoor Winter Activities for Kids
Play Roll a Snowman
My kids love this game! It is so simple but turns a craft into a game. Get the printable roll a snowman game.
Build a Snowman Twist
Build a snowman using play dough. You can set up the playdough along with some twigs for the arms.
Make a Fort
Kids love making forts! Set one up with sheets in their room or in the living room.
Have a Family Painting Night
Get some canvases and paints and set up the table for everyone to paint their own creation.
Set up Family Valentines
One of our favorite traditions in February is to do family valentines together.
Do an Art Tutorial
Kids Art Hub is our favorite resource for drawing. The kids love to follow simple directions to draw.
Put Together an Inventor’s Kit
Kids love to create. Get a bin and add in random odds and ends such as empty toilet paper rolls, paper, small boxes, buttons, etc. Then label it as the Inventor’s Kit. Have a time where the kids can pull it out and use the items in the bin to create.
Have a Family Game Night
Grab one of your board games or check out the Year of Family Games!
Create a regular reading time together.
Get a chapter book to start reading aloud to your kids or read a different picture book each day. Set a time of day where this becomes the routine. I love Read Aloud Revival because they share so many great book ideas!
Have a Valentine’s Scavenger Hunt
Kids love doing scavenger hunts. Use the printable cards to set one up for your kids in February.
Create a Town
Use masking tape to create roads on your floor. It is easy to take up. Create the roads and get out toy cars, animals, etc to play with. If you have any little toy homes or anything those are fun to add in too.
Create Ice Skaters
I love this idea of using craft sticks to create little ice skaters from MollyMoo.
Make Puppets
Use paper bags (the lunch size) or old socks to make puppets. Then encourage your kids to put on a puppet show.
Bake Together
You can use a tried and true recipe or a new one. It is always fun to get in the kitchen together.
Have Hot Cocoa
You can add in some extra fun with whipped cream and serve your kids some delicious hot cocoa.
Play Car Wash
Use a large and shallow plastic bin. Fill it with soapy water. Set it on a towel or a large blanket on the floor. Get your child’s cars out and let them wash them. You could do this with toy plastic animals too. It is a simple way to do a sensory bin.
There are so many other great indoor winter activities for kids! These are just some to get you started. Fill out a bucket list for the season and have fun!
