Chances are almost all of us would love to eat healthier and/or save money. Spending money on food is something that is never going to change, but we can change how we go about it.
I have heard from countless mamas that they are tired of going to the grocery store every other day (for a period of time I am pretty sure the Walmart greeter knew my family way too well). Or I hear mamas frustrated over the dreaded hour before dinner when everyone runs around in a panic trying to figure out what to eat for dinner. Sound familiar?
To help you out, I am listing all of these action steps on a different day of the week. You can lump them all together, but as you work through the Spring Cleaning challenge, it may be good to think about it a little each day.
Monday: Determine when you will grocery shop and what your budget is. I know I am grocery shopping around the 15th and 30th of every month because we get paid then. So that helps me think about how much food to shop for. If you are trying to save money, it is good to have a general grocery budget to stick to.
Tuesday: Make a master grocery list. This was a game changer for our family. Sit down and write out everything that you keep stocked in your kitchen. Think flour, canned goods, fruits, spices,etc. This list serves as a reminder for you. Whenever I make my grocery list, I go back over this list to see if I am forgetting anything.
Wednesday: Make a meal plan. Personally, I will write out the dates on a piece of paper. Then I look at the calendar and make note of anything important. For example, if we have a church potluck on one night, I write down bring side dish. Then I put a dinner for every date. Now, I do now always follow this list to a tee. Sometimes, I mix the meals up but at least we have a general plan. Check out freezer meals
Thursday: Make a grocery list. From the meal plan, you can write down the items you need (some you should already have stocked). I look at my master list to remind me of the basics that we may be running low on.
