6 Tips for Switching to Non-Toxic Skincare
Take your time when switching to non-toxic skincare.
When I was a new mom, I tried to switch everything (food, skincare, etc) at once. It led to me being very overwhelmed. Decide to focus on switching one thing at a time. Once you find a good alternative, move on to the next item. As you are switching, if you hear of other products, keep a running list in a notebook or the notes app of your phone.
Download a helpful app.
It can be very overwhelming to search for the right non-toxic skincare product. There are so many options. I have found it helpful to have an app that I can use to search for products. Check out the EWG’s Healthy Living App.
Switch one product at a time.
It can be tempting to throw everything out and do a complete overhaul. However, remember it is a process. It will take time. Personally, I decided to focus on my face first and then move from there.
Wait until you run out.
An easy way to focus on switching a little at a time is to wait until you run out of something! When I ran out of face wash and lotion, I knew it was a good time to switch. I want to switch my face toner but am waiting until that runs out.
Be willing to try a few things.
It may take some time to find the right fit. Be patient and keep trying! If you find a brand you love, you may be eager to see that it is a great fit all around!
Keep your mind in the right place.
There is a line between being mindful of the products we use and being obsessive. Using non-toxic skincare products is a good thing but we have to be careful that we are not doing this to have a sense of control. God has created each of us beautiful and unique and it is good to take care of our bodies, but let’s be careful that we do not become obsessive.
