Sunday prep is what can help you start your week off well.
My Sunday prep has become a consistent rhythm in our home. In fact, I have grown to depend on it so much that I aim to protect Sundays as much as possible. I have found that by taking time on Sunday to prepare for the week ahead, I enter into Mondays prepared.
Of course, Sunday prep does not equal smooth sailing. There are plenty of Mondays that are full of chaos, forgotten papers, and so on. However, for the most part I have found Sunday prep to be key for helping our family to thrive.
6 Things to do for Sunday Prep
Look at the week ahead in your calendar.
Since I love and use my Simplified Planner, this is when I look at the monthly spread and write the appointments or activities into my weekly spread. Looking at the week ahead has been so helpful for me. I have found that this helps me remember things that I would otherwise completely forget!
Talk to your spouse about the week ahead.
This is something that I have personally been working on. I started to realize that while it was good for me to look at the week ahead, it would be even better to do this with my husband. This way we start the week off on the same page.
I know some couples like to use apps such as Cozi or Google Calendar. Since I am such a paper planner girl, I usually just talk about the week ahead with my husband.
Make a list for the week.
Remember that brain dump I shared about? Well, I like to make a weekly list from this Master list. Typically, I will go back over the master list and look for the priority items and put them into my weekly list. Then every night, I make a daily list for the next day. This is key because I wake already knowing what I want to accomplish that day.
Decide on meals for the week.
We do no not usually plan out breakfast and lunch because those stay pretty regular. However, I do have a general meal plan for our dinners. This fluctuates some but I will look at the week ahead and write down when we are eating what.
What I have found to be helpful is to plan the meal according to the evening activity. For example, chili is not a good dinner for soccer night (I may have learned this the hard way). I like to write out our meal plan on board in our command center. This way I can glance at it every morning to see if any food has to go in the crockpot and so on.
Have some family time.
Before you jump into a brand new week, take some time as a family. You could do some of your Family Moments, watch a movie together, play outside, etc. Just having a few moments of downtime together can be key before Monday.
Take time for yourself.
A few months ago, I started a regular Sunday evening habit of doing a face mask. I am not even sure why I started this but now every single Sunday evening, I do a face mask. Lately, I have loved this mask from Art Naturals.
You do not have to do a Sunday evening face mask, but I encourage you to do something for yourself. Whether it is sitting to read, going on a run, taking a bath, whatever it maybe- do it! Trust me, you will enter into Monday so much more refreshed!
