All about setting goals? These tips and resources will help you get into action!
Setting goals has been extremely helpful for me as I can tend to be a little unfocused at times. In 2017, I started to be intentional in goal setting and noticed a big difference. Whether it is a goal for my marriage, family, or blogging, I have found it to be extremely helpful to put things into writing.
Tips for Setting Goals
They need to be measurable.
Whenever I set a goal, I ask myself, “how can I measure this?” When I decided I was going to run a 5K, I then had to write out measurable goals for this. For example: Run three days a week for 1 mile. If I just write down a run, there is no way to measure how the goal went.
As you set your goals, make sure that you can measure them!
Goals need accountability.
It does absolutely nothing to write down a handful of intentions for the year and then never look at them again. There must be action steps and accountability.
Find another friend who wants to set goals too and decide to check in with each other regularly.
Write them down and look at them regularly.
At the beginning of the year, I write down my goals. Then I also break these into smaller chunks at the start of every month. From this, I break them into weekly and daily chunks. It is a constant process of breaking down the big picture.
In the past, I had a bad habit of making great goals but having horrible follow through. Doing this breaking down of the goals regularly has helped me to stay intentional.
Cover them in grace.
The unexpected things happen and we need to have grace with our plans and goals. As a mom, I am learning to let go of my expectations and this folds out into all areas of life. If a goal is not accomplished, I look at the goal honesty and ask myself: “ Do I just need to move the goal to the next month when life is calmer or is this goal just not good for this season at all?” Be honest with yourself about your season, and have grace.
Goals are helpful for all people.
Whether you are a stay-at-home mom or a working mom, I highly recommend focusing on the different areas of your life. This habit helps give you focus and move forward with your life.
